Albert F. Monfreda, 76 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Albert was born in Worcester, a son of Albert G. and Elizabeth (Mastrodomenico) Monfreda. He earned his high school education from Commerce High School and later earned an associate’s degree from Becker Junior College. Albert served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War in Guam. He worked for many years as a computer operator as well as outside sales for Federated Auto retiring in 2017.
Albert was a member of Retired Friends Club of Greendale and Our Lady of the Angels Church. He loved hockey and was a coach for Midstate Youth Hockey and SPM Girls Hockey. He also played hockey up until 2 years ago. Albert enjoyed golfing especially when he was with his grandsons and was a member of PGA Hope. His most cherished moments were with family and grandchildren. Al took particular pride in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events as their loudest cheerleader.
Albert is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Theresa M. (Berthiaume) Monfreda; two sons, Jay Monfreda and his wife Erica of Millbury and Derek Monfreda and his wife Meredith of Worcester; a sister, Rosemary Simao of South Windsor, CT.; four grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Sydney, Mark, Madison and Allyson; nieces, nephews and close friends.
The Monfreda family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Preferred Transitions Hospice of Milford, especially Kati Lima and the staff at Hospital at Home, especially Frank for the outstanding care they gave to Albert.
Services for Albert will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 with a procession from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester to Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 17th from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 or St. Paul’s High School Hockey Team, c/o the Athletic Department, 144 Granite St., Worcester, MA. 01604
