Obituary
Albert (Al) George Slakis, 96, of Barrington, IL died on September 18, 2023 at Ascension Alexian Brothers Hospice residence. Al was born on February 19, 1927 to Cecilia Majeika and Paul Slakis in Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years Mary Margaret Pierzynski in 2003 and his brother Paul Joseph Slakis in 2011.
Al was a graduate of Linbloom Highschool and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He went on to get an undergraduate and Masters degree in Mathematics at DePaul University. He obtained his Masters in Business from the University of Chicago in 1961. Upon graduation from college, he began work in the insurance industry where he would excel and remain the rest of his life. He worked at USAA insurance company in San Antonio as Vice-President. He was also President of NABRICO (National Association of Bar Related Insurance Companies). Al's final position was as President of the Ohio Bar Liability Insurance Company in Columbus, OH before retiring in 2003.
Al was committed to family above all. He loved his son and daughter beyond measure and was always there for them. He loved talking sports or business with his son. He loved Ohio State Football and many Saturdays were spent with his son talking about the Buckeyes. He was also a big Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved talking about his life and adventures with his daughter. His granddaughter Sydney was his pride and joy and he was anxiously awaiting what college she was going to choose. Always the businessman, Al loved all things financial, reading about the stock market and watching financial shows. He loved musicals, big band music and Frank Sinatra. His favorite musicals were Oklahoma and Gigi.
Survivors include his son Steven Slakis, his daughter Paula Hammill, his daughter in law, Jennifer (Reising) Slakis, his son in law Roger Hammill and his granddaughter Sydney Slakis. The deceased will be laid to rest next to his loving wife at Resurrection Cemetary in Justice, IL
