ALBERT MELVIN STEVENS, "The Man that Hung the Moon", 82, of the Hobbs Branch section of Grundy, VA, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Pikeville Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Little Fox, VA, he was the son of the late Jasper Newton and Dora (Collins) Stevens. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of Poplar Creek Church of Christ and was a longtime member of the Sons of the Confederacy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a former employee of Island Creek Coal Company. He enjoyed going to the race and was a jack of all trades.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Jonnie (Walker) Stevens of Grundy, VA; Sons: Albert Joe (Janet) Stevens of Claypool Hill, VA, Allen Lee (Rebecca Lou) Stevens of Maiden, NC; Daughter: Angel Lynn Stevens of Grundy, VA; Grandchildren: Brandy Santana (Gerald) Arrington of Colorado Springs, CO, Cody Allen (Jordan) Stevens of Maiden, NC, Michael Scott Stevens and Brianna Lynn Stevens; Great-Grandchild: Andrew Allen Stevens; Brothers: Charles (Patsy) Stevens of Little Fox, VA, Virgil (Diana) Stevens of Princeton, WV; Sister: Hazel Huffman of Virginia.
Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Funeral Services for ALBERT MELVIN STEVENS will be conducted Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Jim Belcher officiating with burial to follow in the Stevens Cemetery on Sandy Ridge Rd., near Haysi, VA.
Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Brad Calhoun and Staff.
