Deaconess Alberta "Micey" Mitchell Ballen, daughter of the late Greely and Oree Mitchell, was born on June 26, 1960, in
Conway, South Carolina. She peacefully entered eternal rest on October 5, 2025.
Alberta was a proud 1978 graduate of Conway High School and a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She later earned an associate degree in Accounting from Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Throughout her professional career, she worked faithfully at Builders First Source and First Citizens Bank. After years of dedicated service, Alberta retired from First Citizens Bank to spend more cherished time with her beloved grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.
Alberta was a strong-willed, warm-hearted woman whose faith guided every step of her life. A woman of God and great conviction, she poured love, compassion, and wisdom into everyone she encountered. As the matriarch of her family, she embodied selflessness, care, and grace-nurturing her loved ones with steadfast devotion.
She was known for her honesty, her wisdom, her tough love, and her unwavering support. Alberta would "keep it real," hold you accountable, and still love you through every storm. Her words could comfort like a hug through the phone, and her advice always came from a place of faith and understanding. She was both your biggest cheerleader and your toughest coach-reminding all that they were made in the image of God and capable of greatness.
Her teachings were simple yet powerful: chase your dreams, save for a rainy day, and always put God first. Her love was unconditional, her meals filled both body and soul, and her guidance illuminated every path. She often said, "If you want something out of this world, you have to get out and work for it, because nobody is giving you nothing for free."
More than a wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, or friend-she was the very definition of family. Alberta found joy in laughing, dancing, cooking, and sharing seafood feasts with those she loved. Shopping for clothes brought her peace, and helping others came naturally to her. Fierce and protective, she was a pillar of strength and faith to all who knew her. If she loved you, you knew it-without question and without condition.
Her love was powerful, her faith unshakable, and her legacy everlasting.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, Greely and Oree Mitchell; brothers, Carlie and Emory Mitchell; sisters, Gloria Watts and Carolyn Vereen; and her late in-laws, Janet and Richard Johnson and Wyonne Wilson.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband of 41 years, Deacon Gerald Ballen; two beloved children, Tiffany (Jaylin) Glover of
Conway, SC, and Jeremey Ballen of
Myrtle Beach, SC; and three precious grandchildren, Jeremey "Jaydon" Ballen, Alayah Ballen, and Autumn Glover, all of

Conway, SC; one sister, Berniece Wagner of Syracuse, NY; her father-in-law, Robert Wilson of Flint, MI; mother-in-law, Laura King of
