Albertus "Ad" Van Dyk

May 11, 1931 ~ April 17, 2025

Albertus Van Dyk, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend and neighbor, passed away and returned home to his Heavenly Father's loving arms at home in Taylorsville, Utah, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Ad, as he was lovingly known, was born on May 11, 1931, in Utrecht, The Netherlands, to Albertus Vay Dyk and Martina Hendrika Van Loveren. He immigrated to the United States in 1949 for the church and stayed in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Several years later, he finally came to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he resided the remainder of his life.

On September 3, 1964, Ad married his sweetheart and eternal companion, Delsa Ellen Harland, in the Salt Lake Temple. On September 16th, 1970, their only daughter, Melissa Ellen became theirs. Missy took care of both of her parents in their older years. On October 7, 1997, his only granddaughter, McKenzee Ellen, was born. When Kenzee was just a few minutes old, she opened her eyes and looked right into her grandpa's eyes like she was saying..."Oh there you are. I've been looking for you."

Missy was her dad's "little croakaladokus", but Kenzee was the apple of his eye. He wanted nothing but the best for his two girls.

When Delsa passed in 2014, he felt so lost without her, so we can only imagine the reunion they are having.

Ad was a very patient and grateful man. He took care of his wife, mother, and mother-in-law until their very last breaths were taken. He loved bacon and would always order some when he went out to dinner with either of his girls, or Jim McGowan. He loved going for drives.

One of the things he most cherished was being able to take the LDS Missionaries that served in the Taylorsville, Utah Stake to their appointments and treat them to lunch or dinner.

Ad came to Salt Lake City to work for the Utah Theaters, Deseret Book, and at retirement was a news managing editor with Intermountain Contractor/ The McGraw Hill Companies. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as Bishop of the Cannon 2nd Ward; Stake President/Counselor,( serving over 20 years in the Stake Presidency), of the Taylorsville, Utah Stake; Gospel Doctrine teacher, and Temple worker in the Jordan River Temple. He had a great faith and strong testimony of the Gospel.

Ad is survived by his daughter, Melissa; granddaughter McKenzee; niece Trudy Van Dyk; niece Wilma (Gerrit) Burger and family; nephew Chris (Jeanette) Van Dyk and family; niece Kym (Shaun) Wheeler and family; nephews John and Mike Harland.

Preceded in death by his sweetheart Delsa; parents; brother Gerrit; sister-in-law Stien; brother and sister-in- law Derek and Mary Harland; nephew Albert Van Dijk.

We as a family wish to thank Inspiration Home Health and Hospice, especially the nurses and aides, that took such good care of Ad and especially during the last 6 weeks of his life.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 25, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at The Taylorsville, 1st Ward, 4845 South Woodhaven Drive. Viewings will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday at the church, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy, Utah.

We would like to request that blue, yellow, or any spring colors be worn to the funeral to pay tribute to Ad, as these were his colors.
