Alejandro Tano Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMurrough Funeral Chapel - Libertyville on Jan. 28, 2026.
Alejandro Tano, 90, of Mundelein, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026 at his home, surrounded by the family that was the center of his world.

Born in Laoac Pangasinan Philippines, Alejandro's life was defined by quiet strength from the very beginning. With the unfortunate passing of his father just months before he was born, Alejandro was raised by his mother, Gregoria and his grandparents. This early experience instilled in him a profound sense of duty and ambition. He began his professional journey as a teacher, a role that suited his patient and guiding nature. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Francisca, with whom he would build a legacy spanning decades and continents.

Alejandro's greatest sacrifices were made for the future of his family. While Francisca immigrated to the United States to pave the way, Alejandro remained in the Philippines. With the help of his in-laws he took care of their children while waiting for the moment they could be reunited.

Upon arriving in the USA, Alejandro worked tirelessly to ensure his family thrived. He first found success as a dedicated insurance salesman for John Hancock, but his desire to care for others eventually led him back to the classroom. In a remarkable display of lifelong learning and sacrifice, he became a Registered Nurse, serving in the Intensive Care and Recovery Units of St. Mary of Nazareth, Norwegian American, St. Ann, and West Suburban Hospitals. He dedicated his hands and heart to the sick until his retirement at the age of 75.

Despite his many professional achievements, Alejandro remained a deeply humble man. His life was anchored by an unwavering faith in God and a generosity that knew no bounds. In his quiet moments, he found joy in the soil, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens with the same patience and care he gave to his patients and his family. Even in retirement, his focus remained on the well-being of others, as he stayed active caring for his beloved wife and their home.

Alejandro was a devoted husband, a guiding father, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His life was a testament to the idea that true success is found in how much one gives back to the world. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of hard work and kindness lives on in the family he sacrificed so much to build.

Alejandro is survived by his wife of 64 years Francisca; his children Wilson and Leah (Mike) Nayden; his grandchildren Jeffrey (Sharon), Nathaniel, Jennifer and Jessica and his two great-granddaughters Sophia and Madeline. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Mariano, Berting, Leling, and Soling.

Visitation for Alejandro will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday Feb 1st at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Monday Feb 2nd at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 320 S Washington Ave, Park Ridge IL 60068 with entombment to follow at Maryhill Cemetery.
