Robert Goss Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMurrough Funeral Chapel - Libertyville on Feb. 20, 2026.
Robert Edward Goss III, of Grayslake, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. Born in East Orange, New Jersey, to Robert Jr. and Dorothy Goss, Robert's life was defined by a profound sense of duty, a sharp intellect, and an unwavering commitment to his family and faith.

Robert answered the call to serve his country after high school, honorably joining the United States Army in active duty and later in the US Army Reserves. He carried his military service as a badge of honor throughout his life, and the discipline he cultivated in the Army became the bedrock of his future success.

Following active duty in Germany, Robert earned his Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and began a prolific 40-year career with Moore Business Forms. Applying his natural business and leadership skills, he rose through the ranks from sales to retire as the Vice President of Quality Management. His commitment to excellence was further marked by his continued academic achievement, as he was a proud graduate of the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, where he earned an MBA.

A resident of Libertyville since 1978, Robert was a pillar of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His devotion to his faith was evident in his active service as a Eucharistic Minister and his participation in Men's retreats. He found great joy and camaraderie as a charter member of the Centre Club, where he fostered lifelong friendships.

An avid sportsman, Robert's love of baseball began on the diamond in high school and later as a minor league baseball catcher. Though a lifelong New York Mets fan, he eventually adopted the Tampa Bay Rays as his favorite team during his and Rose's many winters in Florida. However, his true sanctuary was the golf course. Living across from Pine Meadow Golf Course, he was a fixture at the first tee every Sunday morning with dear friends - a tradition he cherished.

Above all, Robert was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. In his later years, nothing brought him greater joy and pride than his grandchildren. He was their most constant supporter, never missing a sporting event and always cheering the loudest for their successes.

Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years Rose; his children Patricia (Mark) Clark, Robert IV (Dianna) and Christopher (Robin); his grandchildren Jonathan (Danielle), Graham (Jessica), Robert V and Kaleigh; his great-grandson Wesley and his brother Ronald (Sally) Goos. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Robert will be held from 10:00 AM on 1:00 PM on Thursday March 5, 2026 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville with a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow with military honors at Ft. Sheridan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. Funeral information (847) 362-2626.
