Alessandro Leccese passed away peacefully on Friday May 16, 2025 at the Life Care Center of Stoneham. He was 85. Born and raised in Gaeta, Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio and Anunziata (Macera) Leccese. He came to the United States in 1966 and settled in Somerville where he lived with his wife and raised his family.
A hard working man who was devoted to the care of his family, Alessandro worked as a foreman with local 151 in the construction industry. A man with natural talents and a "do it yourself" spirit, he could build, improve or repair anything. His Union Square home was not only well cared for but was a marvel to his friends and neighbors for his prodigious tomato garden and vineyard. He had a wonderful summer home at Swifts Beach in Wareham where he and his family enjoyed relaxing times in the sun or fishing and digging for clams and quahogs. As a faithful son of Gaeta, he was devoted to Saints Cosmas and Damian and participated every year in the festival of the saints.
The beloved husband of the late Elaine T. (Palumbo) Leccese, who passed away in 2019, Alessandro was a devoted father to Anthony Leccese and his wife Gina of Medford and the late Lisa N. Leccese Tringali. He was a loving grandfather to Alexander Leccese, Anthony Leccese and his wife Cali, Brianna Leccese, Domenic Tringali and his wife Anna, Gabrielle Tringali Moore and her husband Jordan. He was a loving great-grandfather to Michelle Leccese and Elaina Moore. Alessandro also leaves his sister Rosa Moscati and brother, Salvatore Leccese, both in Italy.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, May 21 from 4 – 8 PM at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, and again on Thursday morning at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, 262 Washington Street, Somerville. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Alessandro's name to the Saints Cosmas and Damian Society, 17 Porter St., Cambridge, MA 02141.
