It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since we said 'goodbye' to Alex. Those 5 years seem in one way like an eternity, while in another way, I expected to see him when I walked in the office yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Barry and Travis who have also suffered the devastating loss of Margaret this last year. We wish Barry a fulfilling, much deserved retirement, and appreciate and admire Travis' strength and determination to soldier on....

I was floored when I heard of his passing. Alex reached out to me in the mid 2000's over a bankrupt company that he saw my firm had invested in. He was an accountant by trade but became extremely adept at investing. His insights and tireless research were uncommon outside the typical professional investors. He did more thorough work than most of my colleagues. We met face to face in 2012 when I moved back to the east coast. I liked him from day one. After the '09 recession, he'd stocked up on food and gold (stocks and coins). He made a mint investing in All American Semiconductor and tirelessly led the charge to litigate against the industry that put them into bankruptcy. He made himself, and the rest of us shareholders, a lot of money. I called him to congratulate him but never returned my call. Now I know why. I figured he'd taken some of that money and went on a trip. He lived well below his means. I fantasized about him camping and picking wild, exotic mushrooms in one of Florida's state parks. I will miss him. I'm shaken up. Alex, did you ever put seat belts in that Porsche you bought? Miss you man. May you find the most exotic mushrooms and pristine beaches and forests far beyond what exists here on earth. Rest in peace.

Alex was a man of integrity, honestly and love. His core values came from his wonderful parents. His humor and thirst for adventure always brighten our visits. Travis, your brother thought the world of you. Girls, we never had a conversation without his comments about his love for you two. We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with you all. Alex loved his family, his friends and his work. We will miss him dearly.

Very sincere condolences to the Shaw family. Alex was a great friend from my youth and he will be missed. His recent hobby of documenting the aquatic world he loved was very impressive and I am sure he has the best view right now. Peace out and much love.

We are shocked and saddened by the lost of such a great friend. Our family met Alex and his girls in NC during our annual summer camping trip several years ago and have planned those summer trips with him ever since. We enjoyed the laughs, hikes, foraging for wild edibles, horseback riding, swimming, tubing, rafting and talks around the campground. We loved hearing your stories and finding out about your latest Goodwill finds. Our summer camping trips won't be the same without you. You loved your girls so much. You will forever be missed and we were blessed to know you. God bless your family with comfort during this time. - The Davis Family

Alex is just a tad younger than me by a month. I do not have many memories of Alex as he was one class behind me at Fletcher, but from bumping into him a few times he seemed like a nice fellow! Condolences to his family and friends! Rest in peace brother!

I haven't seen you Alex in some years but I have such fond memories of you and your family at different gatherings either at your house or somewhere at the beach. You meant so much to so many and you were taken way to soon. You are loved and will be missed. RIP my friend.

I am so truly shocked and saddened to have gotten the news of Alex's passing. Less than a week before I had the pleasure of visiting with him and seeing the wonderful pictures of his camping trips and hearing the stories. I have known him for years and had selfishly taken for granted his continued presence for years to come!
My thoughts and prayers go to Barry, Margaret, Travis, and Alex's girls. Please know you are all in our hearts.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Shaw family, especially Jade and Paris. Alex was one of my first friends when I moved to Jacksonville in 1981. I was lucky enough to know him at the many stages of our lives; as classmates, as fellow parents and also in business. There was never a moment when he didn't take the time to share his knowledge and passions with me, especially the love he had for his girls and his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

What a mark this remarkable young man has left in our world. I wish I had known him better. It was evident to me the first time we met that he was clearly a force of nature at it's kindest. My prayers for comfort to his two girls and his family, for they have had the great gift of his undying love.

Oh Alex. How can this be? You were such a great friend and neighbor all those years ago. I remember you and Chris let me put some of my stuff on the second floor of your apartment when Hurricane Floyd was coming. I think we lost a shingle during that one.....(-: You made such an impact on so many and you will be terribly missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Shaw family, especially Jade and Paris. Alex was an amazing guy, and he was always full of life. I had the pleasure of going to middle school on up to graduating with him in 89. He always made a point to catch up when I saw him out and about. Just the sight of Alex made people smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
