On June 19, 2024, Alex M. Wheeler, Sr. (aka, Big Cat 88) passed away. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, teacher, coach, and friend.
Alex was born on May 19, 1928 in Fair Oaks, PA. He went into the army in February of 1946 until August 1947. Alex went to Eastern Kentucky University and earned teacher's degree in industrial arts and physical education. He also received a Master's in Education Administration. Alex was a teacher and coach at Freedom and Ambridge Area High Schools. After retiring as a teacher and football/wrestling coach, he moved with our mother, Louise, to Las Vegas, NV from Baden, PA.
Alex is survived by daughters Sandra Eagel, Karen Castelli (James), Wendy Entzminger (Renee), and son Alex Wheeler, Jr. He is also survived by brother, Bob Kolakowski, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Alex is preceded in death by his wife, Louise (Volpe) Wheeler, parents Anna (Michalski) Kolakowski and Alexander Kolakowski, brothers, Joseph, Walter, Gene, and sister Dorothy.
Alex will always be remembered for his zest for life and how he encouraged family, friends, students, and athletes to live life to its fullest and strive to be the best that you could be. Alex was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He will forever be in our hearts Services will begin at 2:00 PM in the Love Chapel with graveside services to follow at 3:00 PM at Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas NV 89119
