Alexander Benjamin Leff left this world and found peace on September 20, 2024.
Born on April 21, 1996, in Leipzig Germany, Alex, as he was known, was a high school graduate of the Louisville Classical Academy and received his bachelor's degree from Centre College in 2019 where he majored in German. Alex was an industrious young man, starting work at a local Kroger store while still in high school as a part time hourly worker and continuing there part and full time through and after college, ultimately graduating from their management training program as a salaried employee.
Alex was from his earliest childhood quirky and loving, someone who would do anything for anyone, funny and intense in equal measure. He had a passion for ice hockey, starting as a young boy watching his Dad play on his local men's league team, the Pylons, and ultimately becoming a skilled and valued member of the team for the past ten years. He was at his happiest playing on a line with his sister, criticizing his father's play, and dreading his mother's post game critique concerning his somewhat wayward discipline on the ice. Additionally, he had a keen interest in history, particularly European history, and was able to explore many sites in England and the Continent with his family.
Alex leaves behind his parents, Clyde, who loved him more than he ever knew, Ramona, who loved him unconditionally every minute of his life, and his sister, Anastasia, whose love for him was beyond all measure. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members in both the United States and Germany, and countless friends who knew he was someone who was always willing to give without expectation of reward.
The family wishes to acknowledge the great outpouring of love and support for Alex and all of us. Particular gratitude is owed to the Brust family, Kayden, Alex's girlfriend, and her parents, who have been especially compassionate under enormously difficult circumstances; the worldwide 12 Step community that has heard so much about our family that each of us feels loved and supported by its members whether we have met them or not; and, most especially, the Pylons, past and present, including spouses and significant others, for all that they have done and continue to do for our family over nearly 20 years.
Services will be private. Flowers and other material expressions of support are respectfully declined. Alexander simply never knew how much he was loved. Please keep him in your hearts. That is the greatest expression of love the family can ask for.
