Alexander Davis Roblyer passed away on Monday, April 15th, 2024 at the age of 26. He was born April 26, 1997, the beloved son of Andrew and Allison (Unger) Roblyer.
Alex absolutely loved participating in athletics. As a child he excelled in soccer, baseball, and basketball. He pitched a no-hitter, lead many teams in scoring and advanced to several All Star teams. Ultimately Alex chose to focus on running in seventh grade, recruiting many kids around him to join the team. Proudly, he broke five minutes in the mile as a freshman representing Elmira Athletics.
Unfortunately, he developed neurological symptoms that he could not overcome. The end of the sport that he loved led to substance abuse in high school. Nevertheless, he played on the Elmira High School Golf team and made it back to run one more season of Cross Country his senior year.
Alex eventually gained sobriety, moving to Jamestown where he was employed as a peer advocate. He returned to college at Jamestown College and attained an associate degree in psychology, and also became a CASAC-T (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor). While attending school and working full-time at MHA, Alex managed two sober living houses, leading many to sobriety.
His next chapter was buying a home and moving to Endicott, NY where he attended school at Binghamton University. At this time, he was also employed at UHS as a substance abuse counselor. Alex was a sensitive, headstrong, creative soul. He had a gift for music, not only learning to play the guitar, but writing and recording his own songs. His lyrics were always profound and he loved sharing his music with others. He imparted wisdom and insight to those blessed to be around him. He inspired many with his strength and perseverance in the face of many obstacles, both physical and mental.
The pressures of life, the loss of his sister Olivia, and the loneliness of adulthood led to a relapse. Alex lost the battle but not the war. He confessed to be a Christian after hearing Jordan Peterson and other high level thought leaders discussing the book of Exodus. He talked about a YouTube clip that explained how Jesus's death on the cross was for the forgiveness of our sins. It caused him to see this in a new light. In his last conversation with his mother he declared himself to be a Believer.
Alex was preceded in death by his sister Olivia Morgan Roblyer; his grandmothers - Cheryl Unger and Mary Linda Roblyer; his cousin Joseph Anthony Roblyer; and close family friend Fred Collins.
He is survived by his parents Andrew and Allison Roblyer; his sister Lindsay Roblyer; his girlfriend Halle Schreiber; a very special family friend Sherry "Sam" Collins; and his cats - Lincoln and Satori.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM followed by his funeral service at 4:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904. He will be laid to rest next to his sister the following day, Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1200 Walnut Avenue in Elmira.
