Alexander Stevens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home - Selbyville on Feb. 6, 2026.
Alexander "Sandy" Phillip Stevens, 78, of Selbyville, Delaware, passed away on February 2, 2026.

Sandy was born on January 6, 1948, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, to the late Clarence and Roseanna Stevens. He was married for 48 years to the love of his life, Ruth (Kalista) Stevens.

Sandy was a devoted father to his children, Debbie Carroll Birch (Jim), David Carroll (Tracy), and the late John Phillip Stevens. He was the proud older brother to JaneAnn Chadwick (Chuck), Connie Kalista (Jack), and Clarence "Jr." Stevens. His youngest sister, Margaret, also preceded him in death.

Sandy enjoyed many hobbies, including doing puzzles for hours on end, playing cards, and completing crossword puzzles. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially devoted to his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. He also passionately followed the Dallas Cowboys-particularly enjoying their victories over the Philadelphia Eagles. Having worked most of his life in car sales, Sandy loved automobiles, especially his prized 1966 Pontiac 421 2+2, which he owned in his younger years.

A proud patriot, Sandy loved this country and served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1972 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Sandy later lived in Swan Keys, where he was one of the 20 original founding members of the Swan Keys Sports Club.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a brief service at 11:00 AM at the Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home, 19 S. Main St., Selbyville, DE. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Home of the Brave Foundation, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, Delaware 19963. The Home of the Brave Foundation provides food, shelter, and counseling to veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States without regard to sex, race, color, or creed.

Sandy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
