Janet Scott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home - Selbyville on Feb. 5, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Janet M. Scott, 92, on February 2, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on October 17, 1933, in Selbyville, Delaware to Raymond and Roberta Morris, Janet was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and cherished member of her community.

Janet attended school in her hometown of Selbyville before continuing her education at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and subsequently the University of Delaware. She dedicated her life to education, teaching in Wilmington, Delaware, where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning and commitment to their growth.

In addition to her teaching career, Janet devoted her time to various civic, church, and library activities in Selbyville, Delaware, Salisbury, Maryland and Bar Harbor, Maine, embodying the spirit of community service that enriched the lives of those around her. She was a member of Selbyville Community Club, Selbyville Public Library, and various capacities in Salem United Methodist Church. Her generosity, kindness, and unwavering support have left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Conn Scott, and is survived by her three sons, Robert, Richard (Lisa), and Edward Scott, and her two grandsons, Wesley and Alexander Scott, their mother Kathy, and step-grandchildren Hayden, Cullen, and Hadley Fulton. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication.

A celebration of Janet's remarkable life will be held on Friday, February 13th at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville at 11am, during which family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the joy she brought into their lives an hour before the service.

In this time of mourning, we invite all who knew and loved Janet to remember her with a smile, as she would have wanted. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Youth Services at Selbyville Public Library.
