Alexander Wilborn Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 26, 2022.
Alexander Wilborn, affectionally known as Alex, Uncle Alex, Pops, Daddy and Poppy, completed his journey in life on March 23, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Stepney Wilborn and Harold Maurice Wilborn. Alexander leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Eliza Mae Wilborn; children, David F. Wilborn and Deborah K. Harris; his grandson, Derion D. Harris; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Eleanor Kindle; cousins, friends and many loved ones.
Alexander was born on November 21, 1938, in Giddings, Texas. He attended public school in Giddings and graduated in 1957. He matriculated into Prairie View University from 1957-1960. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and served for four years. In 1963, he married the love of his
life, Eliza Mae Kindle of Conroe, Texas. They moved to Austin where Alexander found employment at the Armour Star plant. He left Amour Star and maintained employment at the City of Austin Seaholm Power Plant for almost 26 years. He retired in 1993.
Alexander loved spending time with his family and neighborhood friends. He enjoyed talking to everyone with whom he came into contact. He lived in his Austin home on Encino Circle for 54 years, where he was loved and admired by so many neighbors. People in the neighborhood often gravitated to him because of his humor, infectious character and down-to-earth knowledge. Many times he was the person to contact when neighbors needed help with home repairs and other household mechanical issues. In fact, he firmly believed in DIY projects. His family often ribbed him about fixing electric products simply by attaching non-affective wires to items. Nevertheless, people trusted him and valued his input. He always knew the latest happenings in the neighborhood because people were genuinely comfortable talking to him.
Alexander cherished the times he spent with his family. He especially looked forward to spending time with his family during holidays and special family gatherings. During these events, he would easily emerge as the center of attention because of his quick wit and countless funny stories.
Everyone knew if he got quiet at these gatherings, it was probably because he was busy enjoying some good home-cooked food. It was no secret - Alexander loved to eat! You knew if he were not eating, then something must be wrong. At the same time, he also had his infamous moments when he would express his views. You knew where he stood on issues, whether personal or public.
Overall, Alexander enjoyed a wonderful life. He was fortunate to travel extensively throughout the United States, and to South America, the Caribbean and Europe while on cruise ships. He was loved by his family and friends, and they all looked out for his well-being. He took personal pride in watching his wife, son, daughter, and grandson achieve numerous successes in their lives and careers. His spirit and his legacy will endure for many years to come. He will be greatly missed.

My prayers and deepest sympathy to the entire Wilburn family. Mr. Wilburn was one of the friendliest and kindest neighbors on Encino Cir. I remember him playing basketball with kids. Always having a great conversation about anything and making Christmas decoration for the yard. I still have my big yard Christmas card. Mae you and the children will always be in my prayers, on my heart and in my memories. Much Love
