Alexandra Duyn Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Jul. 15, 2024.
Alexandra "Alex" Van Duyn, known for her creativity and kindness, passed away on July 1, 2024, at the age of 59, with her brother and long-time neighbors by her side in Newburgh, Indiana. Born on Oct. 1, 1964, in the town of Naarden, the Netherlands, Alex's life was a rich tapestry of experiences infused with her singular spirit and interests.
In March 1965, Alex and her parents traveled from the Netherlands to New York City, and then across the country by car to Los Angeles, where she spent her formative years. Alex graduated from Venice High School, where she was a member of the varsity tennis team. Following high school, she pursued her love of the music industry as a publicist. After moving to Newburgh with her mom in 1999, Alex continued her love of the arts with a marketing stint at the Evansville Civic Theater.
Those who knew Alex were touched by her inexhaustible creativity. She was a published author. Her book "Tibby Tales" was written about a special cat she owned for many years. Alex was a cat lover and tried to help out local rescue efforts whenever she could. She leaves behind four kitties she loved very much: Gibson, Ruby, Violet and Earl.
Alex is remembered as an interesting soul. Her kindness was her signature, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross her path. Her creative spirit and kind-hearted nature were not only evident in her work but also in the way she conducted her life-always with grace, empathy, and a genuine desire to uplift others.
Alex was preceded in death by her parents, J. Chris and Diana Dobken. She leaves behind her brother, John Dobken, and sister-in-law, Laurisa Dobken, her nieces Danielle Delomas and Alison Holstad, and her nephew Nick Dobken.
Although cancer may have claimed her physical presence, Alex's legacy is eternal-a constellation of memories that will continue to guide and comfort her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her life reminds us that to be creative is to be alive, to be kind is to be remembered, and to be interesting is to never be forgotten. The family would like to thank all the wonderful, caring people who were there to assist her and lift her spirits through her health battles.
Alex's journey through life was one of purpose, passion, and profound impact. As we say goodbye to this extraordinary woman, let us celebrate the remarkable footprint she leaves behind-a path marked by love, creativity, and kindness. Alexandra "Alex" Van Duyn's story is one of a life well-lived, a melody that will resonate in the hearts of many for years to come.
