Rumford - With a heart full of love and a spirit of adventure, Alexandre Amaral Quirino, 79, known fondly as Alex, lived a life marked by passion and dedication. Born on September 3, 1945, in the picturesque town of Guarda, Portugal, Alex's journey of life came to a peaceful end at his home in Rumford, Rhode Island, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Alex's life was a rich tapestry woven with the love of family, the joy of sports, and the camaraderie of community. He shared over 27 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maria L. (Machado) Quirino, whose partnership was the cornerstone of his happiness. A devoted son to his late parents, Norberto and Lucia (Amaral) Quirino, he carried the values they instilled in him throughout his life.
A proud father, Alex is survived by his children, Norberto Quirino and Ruth Fethke, both of Maine, and his stepchildren, Michael Medeiros of Coventry, Rosa Lopes of Pawtucket, and Angela Martins of Seekonk. His legacy extends to his 12 grandchildren, Jonathan Lopes, Jessica Lopes, Michael Martins, Ethan Martins, Alexandria Martins, Abbigayle Quirino, Annabella Quirino, Issac Fethke, Elijah Fethke, Luke Fethke, Sophia Medeiros, Lily Medeiros and his cherished great-grandchild, Eli Lopes, who will carry forward the memories of his loving guidance.
For over 40 years, Alex's warm personality and skillful bartending were the highlights at the Cranston Portuguese American Club in Cranston. His service behind the bar was more than a job; it was an opportunity to create joy and lasting friendships. A resident of Rumford for over 13 years, he was an active and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, where he found spiritual solace and community.
Alex's passion for soccer was unparalleled. As a fervent supporter of Benfica Soccer, he not only cheered on his favorite team but also immersed himself in the game. He played, coached, managed, and even took on the role of a referee, sharing his love for the sport with others. His commitment to soccer extended to his involvement with the Benfica House of Cumberland, where he was a cherished member.
Beyond the soccer field, Alex found tranquility in nature. An avid hunter, he embraced the serenity of the outdoors and the thrill of the chase. His adventurous spirit was always in search of the next quest, whether on the field or in the woods.
Those who knew Alex would describe him as loving, adventurous, and passionate. His presence was a source of strength and joy for his family and friends. Alex's vibrant spirit and zest for life will be profoundly missed, yet his influence will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched.
