Alfonsina Bruno Obituary
Alfonsina Bruno, affectionately known as “Nonna,” passed away on September 30, 2025, at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. She was 92 years old.
Born on May 25, 1933, in Candida (Avellino), Italy, Alfonsina was the daughter of Stanislao and Carolina (DeLaure) D’Amore. She married her childhood sweetheart, Anthony Bruno, and together they built a life rooted in love and family.
A devoted mother and homemaker, Alfonsina was the heart of her family. Her home was filled with the aroma of her cooking and baking and the laughter of generations gathered around her table for Sunday dinners. She found joy in her garden, where flowers bloomed under her care, and in her kitchen, where she lovingly prepared the foods she adored—fruit, cheese, pizza, figs, chestnuts, and especially Mutsu apples.
She was a gifted knitter and crocheter, and a loyal fan of “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” But above all, Alfonsina was known for her kindness. She made everyone feel welcome, fed everyone, and was everyone’s “mom” and “Nonna.” Her door was always open.
Alfonsina is survived by her children, Nick (Maureen) Bruno, Rose Bruno, Mary Bruno, and Carol (Rick) Jones; daughter-in-law, Tracey Bruno; grandchildren, John Sundermeyer, Ally (Tyler) Baar, Anthony Bruno, Nic (Baily) Bruno, Vincent Bruno, Belle Bruno, Richard Jones, and Mia Bruno; and great-grandchildren Blaire and Colson Baar and Emersyn Bruno. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony, and her son Stanley Bruno.
Her family mourns the loss of their guiding force, role model, and mentor—the woman who shaped who they are today and whose legacy will live on.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 3 to 8 p.m. with scripture service at 6:30 p.m. at Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 6149 Hill Avenue, Toledo, OH. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Maumee.
