Alfonso "Chito" Macatangay, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the age of 65, with his family present, after bravely fighting cancer until the end.
Born on August 2, 1960, in Batangas City, Philippines, Alfonso came to the U.S. in 1988 and has resided in Jersey City ever since. He dedicated his entire American career to Newport Centre, where he faithfully served as the Chief Engineer until his illness began in August 2025.
Alfonso is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Princisita "Wowie" Macatangay of Jersey City, NJ; his children, daughter Christine Ramirez and her husband Richard of Atlanta, GA, and sons Ramon Macatangay, Warren Macatangay, and Martin Macatangay of Morganville, NJ, and Alfonso Macatangay Jr. of Jersey City, NJ. He leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Cara, Jayden, and Christian.
He is also survived by his siblings: brothers Nestor, Juanito, Dennis, Nilo, and Jason; his sisters: Angelita, Josefina, Marie, Odilona, and Marissa; his aunt Vicenta Williams; and his beloved dogs, Havana and Nala.
Alfonso was preceded in death by his father, Sixto Macatangay; his mother, Juliana Macatangay; his sister, Virginia; and his twin grandsons, Marcus and Mason.
The family shares a final tribute: "He was a warrior and fought until the end, he kept the faith, and now he is going home!"
