Alfred Washington Fawns, Jr., a long-term resident of Owingsville and the Peasticks area passed away June 17. His loving family includes: Zelma Fawns, his wife of 61 years; two children --Tim (Barbara) and Tina Fawns (David Collins); grandchildren -- Tyler Fawns, Shelby Samudio (Enrique), and Katie Collins; and great grandchildren -- Henry and Arlo Samudio. He loved spending time with his family, always putting their needs first. You could see the joy on his face when playing with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mr. Fawns started out after high school working as a mechanic and bus driver at the Bath County School Garage. Soon after Tim’s birth, Junior transitioned to working at Bath Motor Parts and subsequently became part-owner with his brother, Kenny Fawns, for several years. After this chapter in his life, he decided to play a more active role in the administration and governance of Bath County. He was elected to Judge Executive of the county and then appointed to the Water District after completing his term. The remainder of his years was spent in retirement enjoying time with his family.

Mr. Fawns grew up on a farm and continued to manage that same farm during his other career endeavors. He raised crops such as tobacco and corn. He cared for a herd of cattle and provided for them by mowing and collecting hay. He truly enjoyed the quiet time on the farm to reflect while he was riding on his tractor doing chores. Over the years, Mr. Fawns developed cardiovascular issues that impeded his ability to continue caring for his farm. As a result, he sold the property to an Amish family and has developed a great relationship with the Amish community during their transition into Bath County.

Known to locals as Junior, he was a man who enjoyed the thrill of racing and building vehicles. He participated in go-cart racing and demolition derby, but mudslinging was a favorite sport for most of his middle years. He was very proud of his collection of trophies and enjoyed showing them to visitors. He had a mastery of mechanical skills and could just about repair anything. He enjoyed figuring out mechanical problems and coming up with new solutions.

He was always willing to lend a helping hand -- lending farming equipment to others in need, repairing vehicles as a mechanic to friends, as well as lending money and time to his local community. He was always there for his loving family, helping with moving during their transitions, supporting them before and after surgery, and giving his family advice on life and how to manage their everyday experiences. The passing of Junior Fawns will be a true loss to Bath County, and we will all truly miss him. May his soul rest in peace.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Hedricks Cemetery, located at 5308 Old Sand Rd, Salt Lick, KY 40371 with Brother Gary Henderson officiating.
