Alfred James Hicks, 77, of Marion, passed away on November 24th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Alfred was born in Mitchell County, NC on May 1st, 1947, to the late Melvin Hicks and Eula Mae Ledford Hicks. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Ledford Hicks and Michael Keith Hicks; and two brothers Jerald Hicks and Phillip Hicks.

Alfred enjoyed taking road trips that ended nowhere; he enjoyed just being in the car feeling free. This was his biggest passion. Alfred worked as a mechanic which reflected his love of cars. In his younger years Alfred enjoyed dancing and singing, you could typically find him in his car playing a Conway Twitty album. Later in life Alfred enjoyed being around his children and grandchildren that he loved so dearly; but you would still find him in his car just driving with no destination and a new album selection of Brooks and Dunn (Neon Moon to be exact).

He is survived by his wife Linda Hollifield Hicks; five children, Tina Matthews of Marion (Tony), Steve Hicks of Marion (Summer), Danielle Hicks of Greenwood, SC, Kristen Hicks of Marion (Charlie Johnson), and Drew Hicks (Ashton); seven grandchildren, Jada Hicks (Austin Moore), Kaidon Mason, Makaila Hicks, Kandra Mason, Cassandra Hicks, Dylan Hicks, and Keith Harris (Stephany); three great-grandchildren, Peyton Harris, Acacia Hicks, and Mila Hicks; and two siblings, Bobby Hicks of Marion and Mildred Whiteside of Marion. And several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday November 29th, 2024, from 11:00am until 12:00pm at Beam Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
