Funeral services for Alfred Lane (Al) Laird will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA with Bro. Joe Aguillard officiating and Bro. Kevin Bates and Bro. George Bates assisting. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery, under the direction of Riser Funeral Home.

Alfred Lane Laird, 79, of Kelly, Louisiana  passed away in his home on September 18, 2023, surrounded by his family. Al was born to the union of Verdie Laird and Nina Hinton on August 2, 1944, in Columbia, LA. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Melba Laird; daughter, Kendra Cubbit (Clint); son, Colby Laird (Edith); his precious grands: Neal Cubbit (Alicia), Luke Cubbit (Ann Marie Smith), Tanner Cubbit (Avery Ates), McKenzie Laird, and McCrae Laird; and his great-grands: Kylee, Sophie, and Carter Cubbit; his brother, Richard Laird (Diane) of Denham Springs, LA; and his sister, Marilyn Ratcliff (Jimmy) of Clarks, LA.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Cory Lance Laird; and two friends who were more like brothers, Clarence Moore and Mike Hardy.

Al served his country in the United States Army. He worked on a pipeline, offshore, and in the logging and trucking industry. His passion was trucking. He drove many miles hauling utility poles to various co-ops. He also loved being a cattleman and leaves behind a legacy to many Kelly boys. He was lovingly known as Pappy to his grands, great-grands, and many others.

Pallbearers will include Neal Cubbit, Luke Cubbit, Tanner Cubbit, McCrae Laird, and Dylan Blackwell.

Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Hardin, Jerry Cubbit, Jerry Meredith, and Chris Strickland.
