Alfred John Light (Jack to his family and Al to some), age 84, passed away at his home with the love of his life, Carol, by his side on the same street on which he was born. Survived by his wife, his high school sweetheart,Carol Downs Light, with whom he had almost been married for 64 years; his son, John Light, San Francisco, CA; daughter, Cynthia (Sebastian) Pistritto, West Chester, PA; grandsons Matthew and Daniel; and granddaughter, Katherine; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Curran Light. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Light; his parents, Alfred George and Sarah Harper Craig; his grandfather, Alfred M.; his grandmother, Lillian Tenant - who helped raise (and spoil) him after his mother passed away when he was a toddler; his sister, Norma Jean McClurd; and brothers, Craig Light and Kenneth Light. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who affectionately called him Uncle Jack.
A 1958 graduate of Penns Grove Regional High School, Jack lived in Carneys Point his entire life and worked for DuPont Chambers Works as an Instrument Mechanic for nearly 40 years. His fondest memory was the family trip he and Carol took with their children John, Brian and Cindy in 1973 traveling in their motorhome to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Las Vegas, Painted Desert and the Champion Motorhome Factory. They also would camp on the Skyline Drive, Niagara Falls and spent countless summers at the Jersey shore with Carol's family. In their empty nest years, Jack and Carol started their motorhome adventures again. Camping out at the Green Dragon in Ephrata, PA almost every weekend. They also frequented the fire house carnivals in Reinholds, PA, Cambelltown, PA, and Sunset Park in West Grove, PA where they enjoyed listening to some of their favorite performers including Ronnie McDowell, Neal McCoy, Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band, Jimmy Wayne, and Marty Stuart. During the winter their RV adventures would see them flee the Jersey winters to spend some time in the warm sun of Lady Lakes, FL where Jack would always drive back to the brisk March weather still in his favorite pair of shorts; still wearing them all the way through November. His greatest joy was his children and his three grandchildren, whom he adored reading to while they sat on his lap and helping with his grandson Daniel's Eagle Scout project and thus, he surprised "Poppi" with the Mentor Award at his Eagle Scout Ceremony which made him feel especially honored and proud.
All services will be held at the Union Presbyterian Church, 254 Shell Rd., Carneys Point NJ 08069. The viewing will start at 9:30 with the service following at 11 AM.
