Canton- On Sunday, July 9, 2023, Alfred "Alf" Payne, age 76, passed away and entered into his glorious place of eternal peace and rest.
Alfred was born May 6, 1947, in Madison County to the late Collie Payne and the late Zollie Sutton Payne. He had made his home in Haywood County for the past 40 years. Alf was self-employed in the lawn maintenance service for several years throughout his life. When remembering Alf we think of his great interest in NASCAR and how very much he enjoyed attending car shows all across Western North Carolina. Alf loved all his family deeply and his memory will remain a part of their lives forever.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Surviving are his sons, Steven Payne of Canton, Michael Curry (Kimberly) of Canton, and Aaron Curry of Canton; his grandchildren, Matthew Curry, Michela Curry, Mason Curry, Marla Curry, Allison Curry, and Alexis Payne; one great-grandchild; a brother, Leonard Payne of Asheville; and his former wife and his best friend, Joy LaTulipe of Canton.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and honor the life of Alf will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Canton Recreation Park, 77 Penland Street. All family and friends are welcome and invited to come share memories and fellowship together at the life celebration which will begin at 11:00 am.
