Alfreda Amaral Obituary It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Alfreda Amaral of Newbury on February 24, 2025. She will be forever missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. She was one of 13 children born in 1928 in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland, Canada to the late Charles and Blanche Pike. 'Freda', as she was known, moved to the United States when she was 19 years old. She stayed with relatives and made a life for herself in Gloucester until she met her loving husband, Caesar Amaral. They married in 1956 and settled in Rowley where they enjoyed many happy years raising their family. They enjoyed camping trips to the White Mountains every summer, and loved to dance away their Saturday nights with a fun group of close friends.
Freda was the kindest, most generous and loving person, always putting others ahead of herself. Her patience and compassion for others were some of her best qualities. She enjoyed taking care of her family the most, but was also a caretaker and nanny for many young children in the Newburyport area for many years. She was an avid walker, and was often seen on her daily walks along Main Street in Rowley. She was part of the knitting group at the Rowley COA and enjoyed meeting there with friends.
She was a devoted celebrant at St. Mary Church in Rowley. She enjoyed reading, writing, crafts and making stained glass. In her later years, she lived with her daughter and enjoyed her days sitting in the sunshine on her back deck, or sitting by the woodstove in the winter to stay warm.
Freda was predeceased by her husband "Sookie" in 1988, and also many of her siblings in Canada. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy, of Newbury; her son Brian of Exeter, NH; and her son Brett and his fianc Jeanne Graham of Ipswich. She is also survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother in Canada, and many nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to count.
The family would like to thank Mom's caregivers and companions - Barbara, Lisa, Nancy, & Melinda. We appreciate everything you did to make her days special.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Calling Hours on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m., to 1:00 p.m., at F. S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley. A Catholic Service will follow thereafter. A Private Burial will take place in Rowley Burial Ground.
