Alfreda Charlotte Layne, age 88 of Caledonia, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Marion General Hospital.
Alfreda was born on August 7, 1934 to the late Fred and Francis (Bowles) Freeman in Marion, Ohio. On May 28, 1977, she married the late John Layne in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Alfreda will truly be missed by family, friends and her dog Sidney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Layne; her three brothers: Eugene Freeman, Bob Freeman and Alfred Freeman; her three sisters: Mary Persinger, Reba Noe and Elizabeth Pfeifer; and her three grandchildren: Lucas Levering, Steven Tong and Matthew Levering.
In 1956 they called her Scooter because she loved rollerskating. She enjoyed her time spent with family at Indian Lake.
She was very outgoing and loved to go shopping. She was always up for going places and trying new things.
She was a active member with Ladies Ministries at Caledonia Church of Christ, Caledonia, OH
She was on the Board for Eye to Eye Low vision support Marion, Ohio.
She loved Music. She played her first recital on an Accordion at the age of 8. She also played the Chello, Clarinet, Piano, Auto Harp, Harmonica, Dulcimer and Ukele. She had just begun playing a Melodica and was learning to play an Ocarina. She could play any instrument she touched.
She also played in the group Dulcimers of Peace for about 5 yrs.
Those who will cherish her memories include her three daughters Christine (Steve) Buxton of Joplin, Missouri; Kim (Russell Killen) Larick of Nevada, Ohio; Kathy (Jim) Wetherill of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, her two sons: Mark (Darlene) Levering of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and Dean (Melody) Levering of Caledonia, Ohio; her two step-sons: David (Artie) Layne of Marion, Ohio and Keith Layne of Caledonia, Ohio; and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She retired from A.O.Smith in Upper Sandusky, OH.
Honoring our Mother's wishes there will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to 1st Consolidated Fire District is 115 N High St. Caledonia, Ohio or the Caledonia Church of Christ.

Condolences to Alfreda's family. Martin and I live behind her on Harding Hwy. She was so very nice and a pleasure to know. Loved seeing her out with Sidney. If there is anything we can do, please let us know.
