Alfredo Afonso Obituary

Alfredo G. Afonso, 83, of Cumberland passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Grandview Center, Cumberland. He was the husband of the late Gracinda "Grace" Afonso.
Born in Covas do Barroso, Boticas, Portugal, he was the son of the late Abilio Afonso and Maria (Gomes) Afonso. He came to the United States in 1967, settling in Central Falls, then residing in Cumberland for most of his life.
Mr. Afonso was employed as a Machine Operator for Standard Nut and Bolt and American Insulated Wire for many years until his retirement.
Alfredo was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He enjoyed tending to his garden and home, watching Portuguese Television as well as watching Benfica Soccer matches. Those who love him will remember his selfless nature and the love that he carried for his family.
He leaves his sister, Lucillia Gomes Goncalves of Central Falls, his godson and nephew, Leonel "Leo" Goncalves and his wife Paula of North Attleboro; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Alfredo's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 6 to 8 PM and continue on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dive, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive, Cumberland, RI 02864.
