Alfredo DeBonis Mr. Alfredo DeBonis passed away on Monday May 5, 2025, at his home in North Brunswick. He was seventy-nine years old.
Mr. DeBonis was born in New Brunswick to Michale and Anna (Donato) DeBonis. He was raised in New Brunswick and graduated from St. Mary's grammar school where he was a lead altar server. He graduated New Brunswick High School then St. Peter's College in Jersey City. He was fortunate enough to spend his junior year of college abroad in Italy where he studied medieval and church history.
Mr. DeBonis graduated college then taught Latin at St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick. He then shifted his career to his love of the culinary arts. He was the owner and operator of Ristorante Alfredo which had its origin in his father's bar on Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick. His second location was on Burnett Street and his final location on Hamilton Street. He then began doing private catering, serving diners the New Brunswick Elks and North Brunswick American Legion. He was also known by many Milltown, North Brunswick and New Brunswick locals for his "Chef's Table" location where he served private diners and offered cooking classes. Once retired from the food service industry, Alfie organized guided tours to and throughout Italy. He continued to plan trips for his many friends and acquaintances up until his passing.
He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna DeBonis and by his brothers Saverio and Joseph.
He is survived by his siblings, Michael DeBonis and Teresa Longo along with his nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends.
Visiting will be held on Sunday May 18, 2025, from 3-7 PM at THE GLEASON FUNERAL HOME OF NORTH BRUNSWICK. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 on Monday May 19th at the funeral home followed by a 10 AM funeral mass at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church in New Brunswick. All services will conclude at church.
