In Loving Memory of Alice Loiuse Anderson 07/28/1942 - 11/16/2025
On November 16, 2025, Alice Manville Anderson passed away peacefully surrounded by her entire family. After a long battle with Alzheimer's, she is finally at rest and made whole by God's promises in her baptism.
Alice was born on July 28,1942 in
Brownsville, Texas to Ralph Manville and Hester (Clark) Manville. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1960. Alice then attended Texas Women's College for two years until she transferred to Texas Christian University where she graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree Education and a minor in French.
After college, Alice moved to
San Antonio, Texas and began her career in elementary education, teaching 2nd grade at Oak Grove Elementary. In 1969 she met Dale Anderson at Travis Park Methodist Church. Dale was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston. The two married and upon Dale's return from Vietnam in 1970 moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota, close to Dale's hometown. There, Alice and Dale began their family. Heather was born in 1972 and Joel followed two years later in 1974.
A true Texas girl at heart, Alice insisted in 1977 that the family move back where the weather was much warmer! That year they packed up and returned to San Antonio.
Upon arrival in San Antonio, Dale and Alice joined Christ Lutheran Church of Alamo Heights in 1977 and are still members today. Alice taught for three years at the preschool of St. Matthew's Methodist Church, and then accepted a position as the Day School Director of Christ Lutheran Church in Alamo Heights where she remained from the fall of 1980 to the spring of 1987. She was also commissioned as an Associate in Ministry in the American Lutheran Church in June of 1985 and remained on the roster for 5 years.
Alice went back to the classroom in 1988, starting with St. Pius Catholic School and then transferring to elementary schools in San Antonio ISD and Northside ISD. While teaching full time, she also completed a Master of Arts degree in Reading Education at Incarnate Word College to become a reading specialist. As a Reading Recovery Instructor, Alice taught children who were behind in reading until she retired from public education. Every year, 100% of the children she taught finished their class on grade level in reading. Alice's last teaching assignment was at MacArthur Park Lutheran School where she taught kindergarten and had the honor of teaching one of her grandchildren. Alice was a dedicated, loving, and brilliant teacher. She lived (and loved) to teach and she touched the whole world with her gifts.
When she wasn't teaching, Alice volunteered by reading to and tutoring children at local elementary schools and helping at the Animal Defense League. She also loved gardening, sewing, reading, spending time with family, caring for grandchildren, traveling, cooking, entertaining, and serving at church. Alice was good, if not great, at everything she did. She loved the beach, cats, Texas weather, Aggie football, her family, and caring for others.
Alice was preceded in death by her mother and father Ralph and Hester Manville. She is survived by her brother Bill Manville, husband of 56 years Dale Anderson, two children; Heather Hansen (Mark) of San Antonio, Joel Anderson (Katie) of Port Lavaca, and four grandchildren; Hannah and Alex Hansen, Ashley and Jason Anderson.
A memorial service will be held for Alice on December 13, 2025, 1:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church of Alamo Heights. The service will also be live-streamed. To watch, please follow the live-stream link for services on the church's homepage at www.clcah.org.
