Alice Baker Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 20, 2025.
Alice Lucille Baker, 86, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2025, at Riley Crossing Senior Living in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Alice was born on November 12, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, and grew up on a farm where she developed a strong work ethic that stayed with her throughout her life. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Monticello, Iowa, and went on to earn a teaching degree from Briar Cliff University. Later in life, she returned to school and earned a business degree from Metropolitan State University, eventually working as a purchasing agent after many years as a devoted teacher and mother.
Above all, Alice considered her greatest accomplishment to be raising her four children. She was known for her contagious laugh, witty sense of humor, and zest for life-traits that never faded with age. Alice's trust in God sustained her. When asked what she had learned through life's trials, she answered simply: "Forgiveness-it is a gift to yourself."
Alice is lovingly remembered by her children: Karen (John) Hosch, and their children Rory and Sean Hosch; Judy (Tim) Chase, and their children Luke and Matt Chase, and Callie (Nate) Fredrickson; Stephen (Julie) Baker, and his children Jack (Emmy) Deutsch, Noah (Adrienne) Baker, and Ryan Baker, from his previous marriage to Shelly Baker.
She is also survived by her siblings: Sister Laura Goedken OP, Clarence (Rae Ann) Goedken, Dorothy Schumann, Judy (Ron) Grob, and Paul (Rita) Goedken.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Edith Goedken; brothers, Reverend James Goedken and Bernard (Janice) Goedken; infant sister, Rosemary; brother-in-law, Harold Schumann; former husband, James Baker Sr.; and son, James Baker Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Eagan, Minnesota, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
For those who are unable to attend in person, a livestream of the Mass will be available at: https://www.youtube.com/@SJNChannel/streams
Alice's legacy of love, faith, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and cherished her.
