Alice I. Bertao

Alice I. Bertao, born October 5, 1927, at home at the San Julian Ranch in Lompoc, California to Manuel and Catherine Dias and left this world February 6, 2026, at home in Lemoore, California. Alice's priority in life was her family. She loved cooking and was known for her great desserts and homemade bread. She was the cafeteria cook at R.J. Neutra School from 1967-1989 and proud of her career. Throughout her years as cook she fed over thousands of children. Alice was a lifetime member of YLI #184 Holy Family and held various offices within the Catholic organization. She loved most was fishing and camping with her husband.

Alice leaves behind her four children: Christine Andrada of Lemoore, Joey Bertao (Lydia) of Hanford, Susan Bertao of Lemoore, and Dwayne Bertao (Fernanda)of Hanford. She also leaves her four grandchildren that she cherished: Jason Andrada, Joseph Bertao, Thomas Vaz, and JoHanna Martinez, nine great-grandchildren, her brother Joe A. Dias of Hanford and her two sisters in law, Elsie Dias and Marie Dias both of Hanford, three nieces and two nephews, her beloved caregiver Krystal Beck and chosen daughter Penny Avila.

Alice was preceded in death by Joe Bertao III, her husband of 47 years, parents Manuel and Catherine Dias and her brothers, Manuel Dias and Lionel Dias.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lemoore on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, with rosary beginning at 10:00 a.m. and mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Lemoore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances honoring Alice can be made to a charity of choice.
