Alice Marie Bradshaw (Van Leuven), 93 of Palm Beach County, Florida peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Winslow and Bertha Van Leuven (Veres).
She leaves behind her daughters Terry Bradshaw and Tina Hovanes of Lake Worth, Florida, Connie Della Camera (John), Ann Laurie Ciarlo (Cory) of Northfield, Connecticut, and Linda Budshaw of Henderson, Nevada. Her son, Robert Bradshaw predeceased her. She leaves behind (11) grandchildren, (14) great grandchildren and (4) great/great grandchildren. She had four siblings, Richard and Roger Van Leuven, Doris Hall and Ethel Bittner, whom all predeceased her.
Alice was born in Gardiner, New York, grew up in Ellenville, New York, and raised her family in Oakville, Connecticut. She held various professional administrative positions, and was employed as a Caretaker in Daytona Beach, Florida until she retired and relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family meant the world to her.
Alice was a hard worker, a good listener, made the most of life and never took anything for granted. She was an incredible seamstress, quilter, avid gardener, culinary graduate, cake decorator and volunteered wherever there was a need. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was patriotic, ambitious, strong-willed, quick-witted, courageous, adventurous, and she enjoyed dancing, traveling and animals. Much of her time was spent with family and friends, socializing, enjoying a tag sale or taking a power nap. She instilled in her children the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, having an education, and living with biblical morals and values.
Alice's family was one of the original Trapps people who lived on Shawangunk Mountain. They were best known as The Huckleberry Pickers. The family had a store on the 4-mile post on Smiley Road. The house where they lived in the Trapps Hamlet, located on the Mohonk Preserve, has been preserved, dedicated, and recorded in the National Historical Registry and is the last standing house from the era. The Huckleberry Pickers and An Unforgiving Land were books written by authors Bob Larsen, Robi Josephson and Marc B. Fried, who recorded the life experiences that Alice and her family endured living on Shawangunk Mountain.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" with family and friends on a date to be determined in Northfield, Connecticut.
