Alice Carty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Mortuary - Salem on Jan. 11, 2026.
Alice Minerva (Byington) Carty, born June 20, 1933, in Herculaneum, Missouri, to Oliver and Flora (Blair) Byington, entered her Heavenly home January 10, 2026, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years.

Alice was united in marriage to the love of her life, Green Barry Carty in October 1953. Together they shared seventy-three years raising a family and creating lasting memories. Alice and Barry were blessed with two children: Linda and Larry, who later blessed them with five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Alice, a dedicated housewife, took great pride in raising her family and maintaining her home. For a time, she did the books for the family business, Carty Charcoal, before they sold. She enjoyed carpentry work and loved fixing things.

Alice enjoyed reading, painting, sewing, and crocheting. She would knit hats all year and donate them to the firehouse for local children. She also entered doll dressing contests hosted by the local bank and won several times. Some of her favorite things to do outside the home were bowling, hunting, fishing, and playing Bingo.

Alice was raised in the Baptist faith. She never met a stranger and often helped others without them knowing. Her love language was food, she fed everybody and truly enjoyed doing it. Most important to her was her family and spending time making memories with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alice is survived by her loving husband: Barry Carty of Salem, MO; daughter: Linda Carty-Bailey of Dixon, MO; grandchildren: Allyson Wilmowski and husband Tom of Chesterfield, MO, Rachel Bailey-Brown and husband Justin of Tallahassee, FL, Bryan Carty and wife Brooke of Salem, MO, Audra Owens and husband J.P. of Pensacola, FL, and Ben Carty and wife Sierra of Salem, MO; great-grandchildren: Tabitha, Beatrice, Emmalyn, Brogan, Kagan, Whitley, Madison, Piper, and Rylan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her son: Larry Carty and parents: Oliver and Flora (Blair) Byington. She was the last remaining of her six brothers and three sisters.

Alice was sassy, feisty, outspoken, strong-willed, and a little stubborn at times, but if you ever needed something she was there. She will be deeply missed but her legacy will live on forever in the lives of those who loved her most.

Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Alice to the Carr Cemetery. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
