Mrs. Alice Tarpley Davis of West Monroe went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Landmark Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Davis was a lifelong resident of the Monroe-West Monroe area, born on August 23, 1935, to Arthur and Mabel Tarpley. She was a proud graduate of Neville High School and Northeast Louisiana University, where she was an active member of the Tigerettes and drama club, served as President of Phi Mu sorority, and participated in Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority and the college Theater Productions.

A dedicated educator and school vice principal, Mrs. Davis spent the majority of her career at Riser Junior High. She also served alongside her husband at WFR Church of Christ, contributing to the teaching ministry, the widows’ ministry, and the Golden Sixties group.

Her greatest joys were her beloved husband Harold, her family, and friends. She cherished her children and grandchildren, rarely missing any of their sporting or school events. Mrs. Davis loved traveling with her husband, friends, and family, embracing every adventure with enthusiasm. They were fortunate to explore the country in their motor home. Another highlight for her were the New Year’s Eve trips east with Hal and Kimberly. Additionally, she enjoyed playing cards in the Bridge Club with friends and participating in the Highland Garden Club. Her great sense of humor shone through in her interactions, especially with her son-in-law and the ladies at the nursing home.

A true southern lady, Mrs. Davis embodied a spirit of kindness, strength, and perseverance, even when facing lifelong physical challenges. Her life echoed the sentiments of Proverbs 31:25-26: “She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come; she speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers George, John, Arthur (and his wife, Betty), and Evert Tarpley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sam and Ann Davis; and her beloved niece, Laurie Davis Edmonds.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harold Davis; daughter, Terri Davis Mitchell, and her husband, Doug; son, Harold (Hal) Davis, and his wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Devin Mitchell, Dustin Mitchell and his wife, Malori, Isabella Davis, and Sterling MaGee; sister, Ordie Tarpley Cherry, and her husband, Richard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Mitchell, Gary Edmonds, Collin Edmonds, Allen Neal, Donnie Quinn, and Sterling MaGee. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Grantham, Tommy Powell, and Lloyd Williams.

The family extends a heartfelt “Thank You” to the exceptional caregivers at Landmark Nursing Home for their compassion and care.

Memorials can be made to White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ 1st Sunday Benevolence.
