Alice Mae Gregory was born on October 17, 1949, in Indianola, Mississippi, to the union of the late Mr. & Mrs. Madison & Mary Lee Gregory. Alice departed this earthly home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Toledo Hospital Critical Care Unit to her heavenly home in glory. Alice was preceded in death by both parents, (sister) Frances Huntley-McFarland, and (brothers) Russell Lewis and Madison Gregory III.
Affectionately known as Aunt Faye, a name given to her by her nephew, the (late) Gerald Lewis Gregory, because of his inability to say Aunt "Alice Mae.". Gerald instead settled on "Alla Faye" and then progressed to "Aunt Faye.". Soon every niece and nephew began referring to Aunt Alice as Aunt Faye, not knowing it wasn't even her name. Being the loving and kind person we all knew her to be, she would simply smile and answer.
Alice graduated from the Spencer Township school district and remained a part of the community before relocating to the Toledo area. Alice was a great typist, typing with impeccable speed and precision. She could quiet the noisiest child just by typing on her typewriter. Alice was also an avid reader. She loved books! Reading was something she made time for each and every day, always encouraging those around her to read because of the many benefits. Alice was a
dedicated member of Third Baptist Church (Holland, Ohio), of which she and her family were founding members. She loved her church family and boldly proclaimed her faith in her Lord and Savior. She was so proud to sit under her brother, the (late) Pastor Madsion Gregory III until his passing. Alice also appreciated the leadership of Casey Diggins Sr., and he labeled her his "star pupil"!
Alice is survived by her sisters, Sarah Lee and Callie Owens; her brothers, Robert Gregory Sr. and Charles Gregory Sr.; and her sister-in-law, Clara Gregory, all of Toledo, Ohio. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins will forever cherish her memory.
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you and whispered "Come with Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and slowly fade away
Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best
It's lonesome here without you, we miss you more each day
Life just doesn't seem the same since you've gone away
We seen to hear you whisper "Cheer up and carry one"
Every time we see you pictures we seem to hear you say
"Don't cry, I'm in God's keeping We'll meet again someday".
