Alice Lee July 5, 1937 – November 8, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alice Marie Lee, age 87, on November 8, 2024. Alice was born on July 5, 1937, to Ruth Lee (Jackson) and John Lee. Her life was one filled with love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Alice was an adventurer at heart, cherishing the opportunity to travel and go on cruises with her dear friend, Carol Jackson. She loved exploring new places and embracing life to its fullest. Above all, Alice treasured time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She took great pride in her family, even creating a special song that listed all their names, which she joyfully sang to anyone who would listen. As the family grew with the arrival of great-grandchildren, the song grew longer, but her love for them remained boundless.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. Alice was a devoted member of the New Central Baptist Church, where she served as a usher, deaconess, and president of the Pastoral Care Ministry. Her deep connection with the Lord and her commitment to living out her faith guided her every action, touching the lives of many in her church community.
Professionally, Alice was a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse, working at Benedictine Hospital and Golden Hill Nursing Home. She also spent many years at the New York Telephone Company. Her work was a reflection of her caring and nurturing spirit.
Alice was married to Wilder Dawson, and together they had six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Lee, her beloved children, Terri Dawson and John Lee, and her siblings Annabel Deyo, Clarence Lee, James Lee, and Maryann Douglas. She is survived by her loving husband, Wilder Dawson, and their children: Diondra Ellis (Prince Ellis), Sherry Shaver (Lucius Shaver), Jeffery Dawson, and Joyce Dawson. Alice also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Eugenia Pierre-Louis, Nina Jackson, Eugene Jackson Jr., Vanessa Lee, Krista Moye, Olivia Fitzpatrick, LaTanya Lee, Trinity Lee, Jon Jackson Jr., Mabbelina Jackson, William Jackson, Cynthia Shaver, and Lucius (AJ) Shaver She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We are also deeply grateful for the unwavering support and compassion shown by her daughter in law, Barbara Lee throughout Alice's time of need. A heartfelt
thank you to Ade Ogunlana, Alice's adopted son, for always being available and offering his assistance in every way possible.
Alice's circle of friends was a vital part of her life, and she shared many treasured moments with those who supported and loved her, including Sister Cassandra Thomas and Reverend Gayle Johnson, who remained steadfast in their friendship and care for her.
Alice's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will forever be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
Rest in peace, Alice Lee. Your love, wisdom, and spirit will never be forgotten.
A memorial service to celebrate Alice's life will be held on November 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the New Central Baptist Church, 229 E. Strand St., Kingston, NY 12401. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her memory. In accordance with Alice's wishes, there will be no viewing of the body, as she generously donated it to science.
