Alice M. Ludwig (Van Boxtel), age 103 of Appleton, WI passed away on October 15, 2025. She was born on January 5, 1922 in Little Chute, WI to the late William and Helen (Hartjes) Van Boxtel. On February 14, 1940 – Valentine’s Day - Alice married Sylvester “Sibe” Ludwig. They celebrated 50 years together in 1990 and he preceded her in death on January 25, 1993.

Alice served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. She was a member of the American Legion Post 258 of Little Chute. She was also a member of a group called the Rainbows, where she met a lot of great people. She loved traveling and going places with Sibe, Roger, and her family. She especially enjoyed her trip with Cindy and Stan to Charlotte, NC to see a NASCAR race – one of her favorite sporting events. Alice looked forward to the time spent with her daughter, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Ludwig-Anderson and her husband, Stan Anderson of Kimberly; her grandson, Jason (Michele) Sanderfoot of Waukesha; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Connor, and Tyler of Waukesha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Alice outlived everybody in her family and is preceded in death by her husband, Sibe; her daughter, Jean Ann Ludwig; her granddaughter, Heather Sanderfoot four brothers, Urban “Smokie” (Bernice), William Jr., Ernest (Rita), and James; three sisters, Eleanor Frakes, Anna (Jack) Mendez, and Mary Lou (Otto) Glander; and her dear friend, Roger Ringhand.

A funeral visitation will be held for Alice from 9-11 AM on Friday, October 31, 2025 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N McDonald St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a mass to follow at 11 AM. Alice will be laid to rest with her husband at St. John Nepomucene Cemetery in Little Chute, WI. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter or humane society in honor of Alice’s love for our furry friends.

Alice’s family would like to extend a special thanks to AseraCare Hospice, especially nurse Nichole, as well as to Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center for all their care, compassion, and expertise shown to Alice during her times of need. Additionally, an extra special thanks to the miracle nurse Jamie from Rennes for consistently going above and beyond expectations in taking care of Alice, including taking her on the Old Glory Honor Flight.
