Alice Mullen

Mullen, Alice "Lisa" (Ayala), of Weymouth, formerly South Boston, Quincy & Scituate passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, one day after her 78th birthday.
Lisa was born on March 29, 1946, to Lazaro and Mary Louise "Weezie" Ayala. After making her First Holy Communion at St. Peter's in South Boston, the family moved to Scituate. Upon graduating from Scituate High in 1964, being a city-slicker at heart, Lisa swiftly moved back to South Boston where she met Marty, the love of her life through her best friend Ellie Rogers. Once Marty returned from his service in Okinawa, Japan they married on August 25, 1967. Together they had a beautiful love that has lasted over 60 years. On their one-year anniversary, they welcomed a set of twins, Matthew & Martin followed by daughters Kerry and Alease. Lisa and Marty created a home full of love, life, music, and laughter! There was an open-door policy at the house, all were always welcome. Lisa would often come home from a long shift waitressing at the Park Plaza Hotel or work at the Condon school to a houseful of kids and this would make her heart happy! Any given Saturday you would hear Motown, Disco, Andrea Bocelli, Do-Wop, Elvis (at Marty's request) or any other genre of music playing while chores were being done. She spent many, many days and nights at hockey games, baseball games and built incredible lifelong friendships through these days with her children.
Lisa was an avid reader and let's not forget shopper, who enjoyed the book club she was part of; she was an historian who loved to learn about all cultures and history – she especially enjoyed anything on the PBS channel; she loved more than anything to travel anywhere in the world - Disney with the grandkids was at the top of her list! Such amazing memories from the Harry Ulman trips and others! Her most treasured times are those summers spent at Ellis Haven Campground, South Yarmouth house and dearest to her heart Hollywood Florida winters with the many friends we call family! Lisa will always be remembered as a kind, caring and extremely generous person, with a passion to help anyone or any organization in need – always the first to give! Above all she loved her Sunday afternoons at her daughters' houses, having roundtable discussions, sipping Carlo Rossi Sangria, and playing XX Your Neighbor and LCR with her favorite people, Marty, Alease, Leo, Kerry, Chico, Lynda and often the grandkids – while Facetiming her sons in L.A. – those afternoons made her so happy!
Big Al, affectionally, called by many who adored her, was an incredible wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend who provided and incredible life for her family, she heartbreakingly leaves behind many family and friends. Her soulmate of 60 years Martin Mullen. Her children and grandchildren who brought her extraordinary pride and immense joy, Matthew, LAFD & May Mullen of Los Angeles, Martin, LAFD & Angela Mullen of Los Angeles, Kerry & John Chico Silva of Weymouth, Alease & Leo Higgins of Weymouth and grandchildren Jonathan, Hannah and Holly Silva, Colin and Chloe Higgins and Martin III and Morrissey Mullen.
Lisa was survived by siblings Tina Stephenson of Pembroke, Laura and the late Dick Payser of Rockland, Bobby Ayala of Scituate, John Ayala & wife Joanne of Wareham and Stephen & Cheryl Ayala of Florida, late Lazaro Ayala Jr. and Barbara of Nevada and late Agnes Harrington of Boston.
Loving in-laws, Maureen & the late Jim Harvey, Dennis & wife Kathy Mullen, Danny Mullen, Brian Mullen, Jackie Toland, Kay Mullen & Barbara Mullen, the late Paul & wife Ann Mullen, late Jimmy & wife Chrissy Mullen, late Joey & wife Karen Mullen, late Tommy Mullen, and late John Mullen.
She loved with her heart her godsons John Ayala and late Scott Payser. A special thank you to the John Scott House in Braintree and South Shore Hospital doctors, nursing staff & aides for the kindness and care Lisa was given during her time there. (ER/ICU/PRATT 6 & 4).
Visiting hours 11am – 2pm Caspers Funeral Home, South Boston, Saturday April 6th followed by a Celebration of Life at Florian Hall, Saturday, April 6th from 3-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
