Alice Raye Obituary

Alice Ophelia Dix Raye who was affectionately known as 'Sister' was called to her eternal home on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Alice was born on March 16, 1935, to the late James Sr. and Corine Dix in Midway, GA. She was preceded in death by her brothers James Jr. and Nathaniel Dix as well as sister Eloise Quarterman.

Alice was educated in Liberty County, GA and upon graduating from Liberty County High School she attended Savannah State College for one semester before heading to Boston, Massachusetts in 1953.

While in Boston she met and married the late Billy Raye in 1955 and to this union 3 children were born. Alice was a stay-at-home mom for many years but also worked as a school bus driver, a certified home health aide, a data entry clerk and other rolls before retiring from Boston Financial Data Services in 2000. After retirement she became a foster grandparent for the Boston Public School System.

Alice was a faithful and dedicated member of Grace Church of All Nations for well over 30 years. At Grace she sang with the Voices of Grace, became a missionary under the watchful eye of Sister Graham and in her final roll was a proud Mother in the church. She loved her First Lady and Bishop and the entire Grace Church of All Nations family.

Alice was a lover of life and never took a day for granted. She loved taking walks in the sun to get her daily dose of vitamin D, exercising and doing Tai-Chi on Tuesdays in the penthouse with Master Heg. Alice was also a social butterfly who never missed a chance to attend coffee hour, give you a call to see how you were doing or give you the latest update on what was going on in the world of hip hop with Puffy Combs. Alice loved to travel, dance, laugh and was always down for a road trip and a good meal at a new restaurant, she was the epitome of grace and class.

Alice leaves to cherish so many wonderful memories, her children: Mr. & Mrs. Rodney Raye, Chanda Raye Dabney and Mr. & Mrs. Lionel Raye. Nine grandchildren: Jocelyn, Willicia, Bryce, Lionel Jr., Sydney, Amaya, Rodney Jr., Xenia & Lisa. Sister's in-law Jean (Henry) Brewster and Barbara Pittman. Alice also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends as well as her best friend since the second grade Mary Louise Frasier.

Please find comfort when I say it was only my body that died. -
