Alice Rini

Alice Yoder Rini, age 96, transitioned to her spiritual home on Sunday, July 21, 2024. Alice was born on October 4, 1927, to the late Katie Slabaugh and John P. Yoder in Hartville, Ohio. She was just 16 at the time of her father's death and Alice remained her mother's primary caregiver and support for decades. At the age of 47, Alice married Nick Marion Rini on June 29, 1974, and they had 25 wonderful years together doing the things that they both loved: gardening, hiking, traveling, and socializing with their wide circle of friends. Alice & Nick were active members and volunteers of the Quail Hollow Park, the Wilderness Center, Akron Metropolitan Hiking Club, and local Audubon Society. Alice was an active member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Hartville for many years and is currently a faithful member at Beech Mennonite Church in Louisville.
Alice received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Kent State. After graduating, Alice taught briefly at Lake Center Christian Day School, but spent the majority of her teaching career in the Field Local School District in Brimfield teaching fifth graders.
Alice is survived by her sister, Lura Yoder Bowin, of Hartville, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Alice is proceeded in death by her husband Nick Rini, brother Mose Yoder, and sisters Mary Christner, Fran Swartzentruber, and Catherine Gingerich; sister-in-law Rosie (Bontrager) Yoder, and brothers-in-law Lee Christner, Laban Swartzentruber, John Bowin, and Abe Gingerich.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26 from 4-6 pm at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 2121 Smith Kramer St NE, Hartville. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. If you wish to give flowers, please share them with someone you love to celebrate your friendship.
