Alice Rosenberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Starks & Menchinger Chapel - Saint Joseph on Mar. 2, 2026.
Alice (née Stein) Rosenberg, 95 of Sodus, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 27, 2026, at her home in San Antonio, TX. Graveside Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at B'nai Sholom Cemetery, South Crystal Avenue, Benton Harbor, with Diane Rapaport-Yampolsky officiating. Those wishing to sign Alice's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Alice was born December 26, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Isadore and Pearl (née Zaremsky) Stein, the youngest of four siblings. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Chicago. As a young girl, she loved dancing. She excelled in both tap and ballet when not playing the accordion. While on a family vacation to the House of David, with her childhood friend Leah Cohen, she met Irving Rosenberg and fell head over heels for him. On November 20, 1949, they were married and spent 71 wonderful years together until Irving passed away. 1952 brought Alice and Irving to Sodus, where he grew up. There began a 63-year partnership of Rosenberg Bros Farms with Sheldon and Vicki Rosenberg. After Irving's passing, Alice continued operation of the farm through 2021, continuing to live there until moving to San Antonio, TX permanently in 2022.

In the first decade of their marriage, Alice and Irving welcomed three daughters, Sandra, Cheryl and Lynn, who brought their parents' endless joy. Alice balanced farming with raising their three daughters. She was an avid participant in Eau Claire Schools, PTA and Eau Claire Library serving as an officer and member throughout the girls' school years. She volunteered as a room mother and offered her daughters' friends a "home away from home". Alice enjoyed socializing with their wide network of friends around the country and enjoyed traveling with many of them during the winter months. Just as when she was a young girl, she loved dancing - if music was playing, she would be on the dance floor. She was also an avid baker, a love she inherited from her father who owned a bakery in Chicago. Starting and operating a catering business with her dear friend Lois Flamm, Alice fulfilled a dream. Her pastries were delectable and infamous. She loved to make apple or cherry pie with fresh fruit from the farm. Canning fruit and vegetables every summer while also working in the fields, packing fruit in the barns, hauling and selling their packaged fruit and vegetables by the truck load to the Benton Harbor Fruit Market, while raising three girls. She was a super-woman! All this from a young Chicago city girl who didn't know how to drive or cook when she arrived at the farm became an amusing anecdote.

Prior to and in retirement, Alice loved boating, traveling, and tending to her flower beds. One of her favorite adventures that she loved to look back on was their trip to Australia in the late 1980s. The annual winter visits for ten years to Hawaii were always filled with stories of beaches, farming and restaurants. Alice and Irving also loved having a boat, which Irving proudly named 'Alicia'. They made numerous friends at Pier 33 and via their boating adventures. For twenty-two years she and Irving enjoyed winters on the Gulf of Mexico in Corpus Christi, TX close to their girls. She and Irving made wonderful friends during their time at Gulfstream Condominiums where Alice was a condo association board member. She also showed off her Texas Hold'em Poker and Rummikub skills with her fellow Winter Texans.

Alice is survived by her daughters Sandra (Richard) Brandl and Lynn Rosenberg, both of TX; grandchildren Samantha Moreno Salton (Alexander) and Jesse Brandl (Ivana); one great-grandchild; great-grandpup Finnegan, sisters-in-law Vicki Rosenberg and Diane Rosenberg; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and generations of friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Irving, daughter Cheryl Ann, parents Isadore and Pearl, sister Sylvia and brothers Milton and Samuel.
