Alice Barbara Scheierl

1930 - 2024

Alice Barbara Scheierl, 94, of Paynesville, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30 at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Monday, October 7 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be from 3-5:00 pm, Sunday, October 6 and continue one hour prior to the service all at the church. Burial will be at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Paynesville. Alice was born July 29, 1930, in Richmond, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Menden) Hennen. She attended country school and grew up with a strong work ethic and deep-rooted family values.

On February 7, 1950, Alice was united in marriage to John Scheierl at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Together, they built a life of love and dedication, raising seven children while farming in Union Grove Township. In 1974, after many years of farming, Alice and John sold the farm and moved into Paynesville, where Alice began working at AMPI. She later took a position with the kitchen staff at Paynesville Hospital, where she worked until her retirement. John preceded her in death in April of 2000.

Alice was a member at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville and was part of the Christian Women.

Alice was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She took pride in her embroidery, specially creating beautiful dish towels, and could often be found working on jigsaw puzzles, enjoying a good book, or playing cards and Bingo with friends and family. Her quiet strength, loving nature, and joy in the simple pleasures of life will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

She is survived by her seven children: Tom (Florence) Scheierl of Paynesville, Barb (David) Kloster of Red Wing, Doug (Carol) Scheierl of Sauk Centre, JoAnn Kleist of North Mankato, Patty (Doug) Schultz of Watkins, Betty (Fred) Plaetz of Woodlake, Lori (Jay) Baago of Farmington; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Katie Kramer; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

In addition to her husband, John, Alice was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Perry Kleist; sisters: Ida, Rose, Marguerite, Dorothy; brother: Oswald; and sister-in-law, Lorraine.
