Alice Schroeber passed away on July 15, 2025 at age 97. She was third in a family of 10 children born to Edward Jerke and Matilda Kramlich Jerke on the farm 11 miles west of Gackle, ND. Her family moved to Montana in 1938. Alice graduated from Shepherd High School and was very proud of playing girls basketball for the SHS Mustangs. She met Reuben Schroeber and after selling a pig to buy her a ring, the two were married December 29, 1947. After a quick honeymoon to Colorado, they settled in Shepherd to farm.
In 1950, Reuben and Alice moved to a farm/feedlot outside Terry, MT where they raised 5 children - Anita, Joy, Lew, Lorette, and Kari. Alice was busy supporting her children's activities whether it was music boosters, cheerleading, academics, or sports. If Reuben ever needed a new machinery part, Alice was his go-to person. Alice was an exceptional cook and gardener. She was also very active in her local Home Demonstration Club. She also belonged to Prairie Cowbelles, even serving a term as Southeast Montana Cowbelles president.
After Reuben's retirement in 1989, the two moved to Miles City, MT. Reuben passed in 2006 so Alice began making plans and moved to Hamilton, MT in 2010 to live with her daughter Joy and son-in-law Mark Yoakam. She was very involved in attending local music and theater programs, following her great grandchildren's sports and school activities, and playing pinochle almost daily.
Alice is survived by her children Anita Lewis of Hamilton, Joy (Mark) Yoakam of Hamilton, Lew (Karla) Schroeber of Overland Park, KS, Lori (Humayun) Khan also of Overland Park, KS and Kari Miller of West Field, NJ. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Darlene Solf of Winnett, MT and JoAnn Peil of Billings, MT.
She was preceded in death by her husband Reuben Schroeber, sisters Delores Engel and Delephine Jerke, brothers Elmer, Albert, Arnold, Daryl, and Daymon Jerke.
No services will be held in Hamilton. The family will gather in Miles City to lay her to rest with Reuben on a date to be determined. Alice has requested that memorials be made to the Play Like Robert Foundation, 251 S. Crest, Hamilton, MT 59840 or on the website
