Alice Louise Davis Sellers
September 26, 1946 – December 2, 2025
Alice was born on September 26, 1946, in Jacksonville, Florida to Perry Prevatt and Katherine Simmons Davis. She was raised in Pickettville and resided in Jacksonville her entire life.
Alice attended Pickett Elementary School, Paxon Jr. High School and graduated from Paxon Sr. High school in 1964. During her years at Paxon Sr. High School, she played first base on the girls' softball team. That team remained undefeated during her softball career.
After graduating from Paxon Sr. High School, Alice attended and graduated from Jacksonville University in 1969. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Elementary Education. Her only goal was to be an elementary school teacher.
Alice served her internship at Harbor View Elementary School. Her first assignment was at George Washington Carver Elementary School. After a short tenure there, her brother, Neil, USAF, recommended her for a teaching position at Tyndall Air Force Base where she taught for five years.
It was during this time in Panama City (The Redneck Riviera), Alice met some of her closest friends, Judy Rollins, Libby Pippin, Sue McKinney and Linda Wattenbarger.
During those five years, Alice returned to Jacksonville frequently. She spent summers in Jacksonville and worked as a secretary for her father's employer, Armour Meats. It is there that Alice met a route salesman by the name of Roland Ellis Sellers, Jr. When Ellis asked her out, her father, Perry, told her not to go out with that boy. Alice replied, "but Daddy, it's only a date! I'm not marrying a boy from Georgia!" Well, needless to say, Alice had met the love of her life, and they were married in February of 1975! Their son, Andrew, arrived March 22, 1977. Alice and Ellis celebrated 50 years of marriage this past February.
Alice's teaching career spanned 33 years, and she retired from Dinsmore Elementary School in Jacksonville. She won the Teacher of the Year Award and had a paddle named Dr. Do Right! Several still remember hearing the smacks and the boys yelling when they'd meet Dr. Do Right. Alice remained steadfast friends with peers Carolyn Barnett, Sharon Mills, Vick Wilson and Susanne Burton.
During her retirement years, Alice traveled to all fifty states. She traveled extensively with her friend, Judy Rollins.
As a family they didn't do much traveling. Great Memories were made in Athens, Georgia, Panama City. Florida and Fernandina Beach, Florida. Alice and Ellis were University of Georgia season ticket holders and attended football games faithfully for 20 plus years.
Alice was an excellent cook and baker. Biscuits were her Achilles heel. Her son, Andrew remembers one weekend in Baxley at a family gathering, their cousin, Elaine Tuten fried quail, fixings and homemade biscuits. When they returned home, they were talking about how good Elaine's biscuits were. Alice said I just can't cook biscuits! They said we can call Elaine; she cooks them the best, and she can teach you! We had a good laugh; we just wanted some good biscuits!!
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Katherine Davis.
Alice is survived by her loving and doting husband, Roland Ellis Sellers, Jr.; son, Andrew Millender Sellers (Amber); grandchildren, Ailanni, Ali Lee, Ella and Brodie; brother, John Neil Davis (Janet); sister, Martha Davis Kellum (Pete);
nephews, John N. Davis, Jr. (Debra), Jerome Keith Davis, John (Tami) and their children Kori and Ace; niece Dana Gandy (Travis) and their children Kailyn and Kyler.
The tribute above was prepared by Alice's loving family.
