Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away Thursday August 15, 2024 at the age of 91 years.
The daughter of the late Jessie L. (Anderson) and James C. Kanary Sr. was born May 9, 1933 in Saginaw. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School, the class of 1951. Alice married James Smith on January 16, 1954. He predeceased her on June 14, 2019. She was a member of St. John XXIII Parish and Guardian Angels Church. She was active with the Scotch Society and Scotch Picnic of which Jim and Alice were crowned Queen and King in 1989. She enjoyed trips to the casino, shopping but most especially cherished family gatherings and being with her family and friends.
Surviving are her children and spouses, Diane and Doug Williams; Daniel and Debbie Smith; James and Sharon Smith; Barb and Don Fall; Cheryl and Douglas Moeller; Michelle and Ed Priem; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law: James and Judy Kanary, brother-in-law, Thomas Smith; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Shirley Smith; brother-in-law Johnny Smith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Mary Jean Goidosik, sister-in-law, Gwen Smith and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary (McCormick) and John Y. Smith.
The family would like to thank the staff at HealthSource Saginaw and Harmony Healthcare for the loving care they’ve given Alice.
The funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2024, at St. John XXIII, St. Mary Catholic Church in Hemlock. Rev. Fr. Thai H. Nguyen will officiate with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral liturgy.
