Alice Stone, age 82, of Pasadena, California, passed away in December 2023 after a battle with cancer and COVID. Alice was born in Illinois in 1941 to Walter and Helen (Josie) and grew up with them in Chicago and Camp Point, Illinois, joined by younger sister Emily. On a blind date while at the University of Chicago, Alice met Edward C. Stone, Jr., and they married in 1962. Ed's position at Caltech brought them to Pasadena, California, in 1963, where they raised two daughters, Susan and Janet. Through the years, Alice served many ways in the Caltech Women's Club and the Caltech Playreaders, from leading committees to directing plays. As a writer, her publications include local history articles and a book about Caltech's Throop Hall. Alice's life would be well celebrated by enjoying a playreading, a piece of coconut cream pie, a new element of grammar, anything Harry Potter, the hello of a dog, or the hug of a family member. She is survived by her husband Edward, sister Emily, daughters Susan and Janet, son-in-law Tom, grandsons Michael and Ryan, and granddaughter-in-law Lauren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Pasadena Humane Society or another similar organization, or to the Caltech Women's Club or Caltech's TACIT Endowment.
