Alice Jean Owens Thomas, age 84, passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2025 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born April 4, 1941 in Surry County to the late James “Buster” Owens and Argol Parker Owens. She grew up in Mt. Airy and graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1959. Alice never met a stranger and had many lifelong friends. She was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her. Her family was her life and she nurtured, loved and protected them fiercely. Alice had a heart bigger than the universe and she put that heart into everything she did. She loved her home, her doll collection, doll houses and miniatures, and treasured the animals who were lucky enough to become hers, especially Lucy, Teddy, Sugar Bear and Shasta. She loved nature and loved spending time camping with her friends and family in the Blue Ridge Camping Club, Ocean Lakes Family Campground and later at Homeplace Recreational Park. She leaves a huge void and will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Kristen Pruett, her precious grandsons Chase and Brett Pruett, her dear sister Laura Owens Triplette and her significant other Linley Cook. She is also survived by her stepchildren Karen Smith (David), Jeff Thomas (Merry) and Mark Thomas (Debbie), her step grandchildren Chad Smith (LeighAnn), Tracey Snow (Brian), Justin Smith, Devin Thomas (Heather), Tim Thomas and Amanda Barnett (Eric). She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby “Bunk” Thomas, her sisters Joyce Simmons, Lee Owens, infant sister Elizabeth Owens, and brother Dennis Owens. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 3PM at Dobson Church of Christ with service conducted by Rev. Scott Meadows and Rev. Eddie Honeycutt. Visitation with family will be from 2PM to 3PM.
