Alice Jean (Olson) Wergin, of Stevens Point, went home to her Heavenly Father while holding her son's urn in her hands, on October 4, 2025, at the age of 102.
Alice was born April 30, 1923, in Mondovi, WI; daughter of the late Oscar and Minnie (Deutscher) Olson. She grew up in the Wausau area where she attended school until the 8th grade when she moved to Manitowoc to be with her older sister and help with her family.
On January 11, 1947, Alice married Leo Wergin Sr. The two spent 50 years together as husband and wife until Leo's passing on September 13, 1997. Alice proudly took on her role as a housewife, doting on her husband and two children. She was a loving and caring woman with a compassion for others and always wore a smile on her face.
In her down time, Alice enjoyed watching soap operas, feeding the squirrels and birds, and listening to classic country music.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Annette (Mike) Mlodzikowski; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wergin; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Janusz) Izdebski, Robert (Bobbi) Mlodzikowski, Nathan Wergin, and Dustin Wergin; and her great-grandchildren, Carson and Ryker Mlodzikowski.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her son, Leo Wergin Jr.; her parents, Oscar and Minnie; and her brothers and sisters.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Mary and her staff and NorthCrest for all the love and caring compassion shown to Alice; to Joelle and the Heartland Hospice nurses for their care, compassion, and love; to Lynn Ulrich and Joan Gitter for their friendship and love over the many years; Sally Chevalier for her love, care, and compassion while helping to take care of Mom at home for as long as possible; to the Pastors of St. Paul Lutheran Church for their love and compassion with home visits; and to the many friends she made at NorthCrest.
A funeral service will be held in Alice's honor at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 13, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church - 1919 Wyatt Ave., Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point.
Shuda Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
