Alice Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand on Feb. 20, 2026.
Alice Hurst Williams, lovingly known as "Baby Alice," was dearly loved by all who had the joy of knowing her. Born and raised in Camilla, Georgia, she carried her hometown in her heart throughout her life. Her childhood memories were so vivid and full of detail that when she shared her stories, you felt as though you were right there beside her.

Alice graduated from Mitchell County High School in Camilla, where her leadership and spirit shone brightly. She served as Class President and was honored as both Homecoming Queen and Miss Mitchell County High School - titles that reflected not only her grace, but the deep admiration her classmates held for her.

She continued her education at the University of Georgia, where she was an active and proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, served as the sweetheart of Sigma Nu, and was named a Pandora Queen. She graduated with honors in Business Education, beginning a career that would touch countless lives.

Alice went on to enjoy a meaningful and impactful career as a Business Education teacher. She took great pride in preparing her students for the workforce, often sending them out into afternoon jobs that gave them real-world experience. She formed lasting bonds with her students and truly loved each one, offering guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support.

After retiring, Alice embraced life at the beach, where she enjoyed water aerobics, afternoons of cards, and laughter with friends around the pool. In her later years, she returned to LaGrange to be closer to friends and family, surrounding herself with the people she loved most.

Above all, Alice was a devoted mother to her daughters, a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. She treasured staying in touch through handwritten letters, a reflection of her thoughtful and personal nature. She loved gathering with family and friends and was often described as the life of the party. With a personality that could light up any room, Alice brought warmth, joy, and connection wherever she went.

Her legacy of love, laughter, and heartfelt connection will live on in the many lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Harwood Hurst; her brothers, Byron (Barbara), Frank (Emily), and Julian (Jane) Hurst; and her husband, Harry Broughton Williams.

She is survived by her daughters, Laura Carson (William) and Julia Leamon; her grandchildren, Cordell Carson (Molly) and Alice Ann Ruff (Henry); and her great-grandchildren, Annie James and Libby Gwyn Carson.

Our family is especially grateful to Barbara Bridges Cottle, who lovingly cared for our mother for nine years. Her devotion went far beyond duty; she became a treasured part of our family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wellstar West Georgia Hospice.
