Alice Joan Wozniak, née Graniczny, 91, of Mount Prospect, IL, passed away at
Ascension Living Nazarethville Place in Des Plaines, IL, on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Alice was born on April 5, 1934 in Chicago, IL to the late Walter and Joan (Strzelecki)
Graniczny. She was raised by his older brother, Alexander Graniczny, who married
Joan after Walter's untimely death.
Alice was a graduate of Jones Commercial High School in Chicago, IL. After many
years as a stay-at-home mom, she entered the workforce selling sewing machines at
Wieboldt's in Randhurst Mall. She later became an office manager for a forms broker,
then a self-storage company. She was known as Mom Woz by many of her children's
friends. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's many sporting events and concerts,
and hosting sleepovers with them.
Alice is survived by her children – Carol Stieve of Des Plaines, IL, John A. (Brenda
Franey) of Tomball, TX, James (Robin Johnson) of Merrimack, NH and Cathy (Paul)
Gough of Arlington Heights, IL; grandchildren - Jennifer, Andrew and Matthew Stieve,
Briana Wozniak Hamilton, Alexis Wozniak Baker, Daniel Wozniak, and Adam and
Benjamin Gough; 13 great grandchildren; and her brother Ronald (Jane) Zabka of
Scottsdale, AZ. She was preceded in death by infant sons Joseph and Paul Wozniak.
A wake will take place from 5:00-8:00pm on Friday, October 17, at Matz Funeral
Chapel, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect, IL. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30pm
on Saturday, October 18, in the chapel at Ascension Living Nazarethville Place, 300 S.
River Road, Des Plaines, IL. Following, there will be gathering of family and friends at
Club Casa Café in Des Plaines, IL. Internment at All Saints Cemetery will occur at a
later date.
Memorials in Alice's name may be made out to a charity of the donor's choice.
